Erpho

Erpho is a collaborative design project developed in partnership with the Alexianer (AlexTischwerk) in Münster an organization that provides vocational training and employment opportunities for people with disabilities or special support needs in fields such as carpentry, woodworking, packaging, office services, and housekeeping.

The task was to design a new piece of furniture using reclaimed material from the former Erpho Church in Münster. A key requirement was that the object could be reproduced in only a few production steps within the Alexianer workshops. The construction therefore had to be accessible, allowing multiple people to participate in the manufacturing process.

Beyond its social dimension, the piece was also intended to be aesthetically appealing and suitable for small-scale series production for the Alexianer retail store.

Developed in collaboration with Frauke Rotte and Mathis Fahrland, the result is a versatile piece of furniture that can function as a step, a seat, or a small side table adaptable to various everyday situations.

The version shown is an initial prototype made of solid oak. The final piece will incorporate reclaimed wood from the former church benches, giving the material a renewed purpose and narrative.
