Shopper

This shopper was developed as part of a collaborative project with the City of Münster and Westfalenstoffe AG. The task was to design a product made from Westfalenstoffe fabrics that could serve as an ambassador for the city and be sold in Münster’s official souvenir shop.
Out of 40 participating design students, five concepts were selected including my shopper, which is now available in the Münster souvenir store.
The upper part of the bag is made from the iconic “Hähnchenstoff,” a patterned fabric deeply associated with Münster and long established within the Westfalenstoffe collection. Its playful character gives the bag a distinctive and recognizable identity.
To balance the expressive pattern, the lower section and handles are crafted from a solid-colored fabric in a harmonizing tone. This deliberate contrast adds a sense of elegance while allowing the patterned textile to remain the visual focus. The city’s name is embroidered in white on the handle, ensuring clear recognition even for those unfamiliar with the fabric’s cultural connection.
My intention was to create a product that carries a story a piece that represents Münster in everyday life and extends the city’s identity beyond its streets.
The image shows me presenting the shopper during the final exhibition at Stadthaus Münster, where all 40 students showcased their designs to the public.
